I think we’ve mentioned this before but Eurogamer Expo was da bomb. To pick just a few highlights from our time there was a daunting task. But we did our best. Read on to learn what we enjoyed the most, as well as what we declared to be our favourite games of the show!
The Eurogamer Expo was awesome. The games, the people, the general atmosphere…it was like nothing we’d ever seen and we loved every minute of it.
Well…almost every minute. There were times where we were brought down to earth a bit; where the happiness train had to make a brief stop in Frustration Town to refuel. No event of this scale is ever going to be perfect but it was annoying to occasionally see how certain mistakes could be avoided. So allow us to air our grievances, as our list below details the few blights on our trip.
After the excitement of Saturday at the expo, Dale and I retired to our hotel room with McDonald’s in hand. We recorded our first in-person podcast in almost a year and then partook in a spot of children’s card games. Word of advice; never play your first game of Yu-Gi-Oh against Dale. The mental scars are still healing.
We got a sound sleep for the first time since leaving Scotland and emerged on Sunday fired up and ready to tick off the last of our must-do activities at the Earl’s Court Conference Centre, starting with our first hands-on with the PlayStation 4. Many other surprises where in store beyond Sony’s latest box, however.
Without further ado, let’s crack on with the second half of our hands-on impressions from Eurogamer Expo 2013!
One sleepless, 10-hour train journey (and two fascinating rides on the Underground) later, Dale and I are stood in Earl’s Court, bodies ready for the Eurogamer Expo. We take our place in the quickly growing queue at exactly fifteen minutes to 10 in the morning, marveling at the cosplayers marching past us and at the skyrocketing StreetPass count on our 3DSs. We’re eventually waved inside, given our entry wristbands and corralled underground as they prepare to let us all in.
And at 11 o’clock on the dot, we step into what can only be described as heaven on earth. The hall is lit up with every colour you could think of. Our fellow attendees chatter with excitement about what they’re going to check out first. Right away, we spot some familiar names on the various stands on the show floor: Zelda, Mario, The Elder Scrolls and more. For our first gaming convention, it’s almost too much to take in.
So how did we choose to spend our precious time on our first day of the event? You may already know if you’ve listened to our last podcast but here we’ll be going into a bit more detail. Let’s dive right in!
Kicking off our week of Eurogamer Expo 2013 content is a special episode of The Beard Network Podcast!
Coming to you this week from Mowbray Court Hotel in London, Jack and Dale discuss the highlights of their first day at the event…after talking about Monster Hunter for half an hour. Did Pokémon X/Y, Battlefield 4 and Volume live up to their expectations?
